The Cosmic Being (Purusha) has a thousand heads, a thousand eyes, and a thousand feet. Pervading the entire universe on every side, He extends beyond it by ten finger-breadths.
nāsad āsīn no sad āsīt tadānīṃ nāsīd rajo no vyomā paro yat | kim āvarīvaḥ kuha kasya śarmann ambhaḥ kim āsīd gahanaṃ gabhīram ||

Then there was neither non-existence nor existence; there was neither the realm of space nor the sky which is beyond. What enveloped it, and where? In whose protection? Was there water, unfathomably deep?
